Newly created position at Country Manager level, responsible for all operations in NZ including a new build site in Hamilton

The company

Our client is highly successful and operates within a manufacturing and recycling business.  Operational for 70 years, they continue to be committed to growth through meeting customer needs and the wise use and re-use of scarce resources.

The HSE Country Manager operates within the framework of the organisations Corporate HSE system providing planning, operational support and  NZ specific advice to locally based business units .

The position is based in Manukau and reports directly through to the Group HSE Manager based in Australia. Operations are in Auckland, Wellington and dotted throughout the South Island.

The role

The position plays a key role in developing and driving outcomes in environment and safety, providing expertise in the management of business risk, engaging and coaching managers, supervisors and employees in fostering a high performance HSE culture.

The role will be integral in improving HSE performance by implementing and maintaining HSE initiatives, codes of practice, policies, and risk management strategies.

The HSE Country Manager will be influential in the HSE change management process and will work closely with key personnel to ensure the HSE approach across the site is sustainable and aligned with the organisation HSE strategy.

Note: The role involves regular internal travel in NZ and occasional travel to Australia

Your duties

  • Support the overarching strategy for the business
  • Implement and maintain the HSE initiatives, ACOPS standards and policies
  • Coach line managers
  • Create an understanding of what good health and safety is and how this is integrated into BAU
  • Provide guidance and support on Risk Management
  • Analysis of trends and initiatives for board papers / reporting
  • Balance Health and Safety priorities between sites
  • Drive the behavioural expectations
  • Stakeholder engagement

Skills and experience

  • Manufacturing experience
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Sound reasoning and intellect
  • Competent knowledge of the NZ Legislation
  • Demonstrated facilitation / coaching at all levels in a business
  • Tertiary Health and Safety Qualifications
  • 7+ years’ experience, 4 of which in a Managerial role
