The company

Our client is of one of Australia’s largest private sector employers – a leading supplier of industrial and safety products and services.  They have been servicing the New Zealand market successfully for a number of years, partnering with customers both large and small across numerous industries, providing specialist safety training, technical support, safety products and expert advice.

The role

You will contribute to and assist in the execution of strategy, plans and initiatives in the area of incident/injury prevention as well as the promotion of health and wellbeing.

Working from a risk perspective and mitigation in line with the Companies Safety Policies, Standards and Procedures, your key focus will be to identify the Health, Safety and Wellbeing needs throughout the business in NZ and develop improvement initiatives to support line management in the execution of the business strategy to meet and exceed legislative requirements.

Duties will include

  • Facilitate the implementation of the HSW strategic and operational plans within NZ
  • Review and analyse the HSW performance, industry developments, legislative change and workplace requirements, taking advantage of opportunities to mitigate and minimise risk
  • Provide strong, visible leadership throughout the organisation
  • Drive continuous improvement
  • Promote and coach to effect change
  • Maintain excellent stakeholder relationships both internal and external
  • Implementation of focused injury management programs
  • Provide regular communication and support to all
  • Manage the audit and assurance programs, ensuring timely close out
  • Facilitate serious incident investigations
  • Ensure accurate, quality reporting and data is delivered in a timely manner
  • Provide a level of analysis to work toward a more proactive environment

Skills and experience

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification (OHS Diploma)
  • A number of years’ experience in a pure health and safety role
  • Excellence in the use of all Microsoft products; Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Great working knowledge of legislation
  • Strong ability to influence, coach and mentor
  • Fantastic time management skillset with experience working in an autonomous environment
  • Leading from the front – with proven results
  • Consultative and collaborative by nature
  • High energy and drive – outcome focussed
