About the role

Reporting to the Manager – Health and Safety, the Health and Safety Business Partner is responsible for partnering with assigned business units to ensure a full understanding of health and safety standards, requirements and issues and for brokering intelligent, fit-for-purpose solutions.

You will act as a trusted leader and provide coaching and guidance, working closely with the Manager – Health and Safety to identify wider potential organisational issues which may impact on business risk.

This position will concentrate on the Property Construction portfolio within the wider business, but work within the wider team of Health and Safety Professionals.

Duties

  • Lead by example, demonstrate a high level of integrity/capability
  • Provide strong leadership and mentor direct reports to ensure team success
  • Actively champion a strong health and safety culture, working towards highly effective worker participation practices
  • Full participation as a member of the assigned business units’ leadership forums and meetings
  • Work with all stakeholders to ensure relevant elements of the HS Management Framework are implemented and practiced to a consistently high standard
  • Ensure effective on-line HS reporting
  • Work with the HS Manager to provide statistical analysis of data
  • Provide safety risk identification and management, from design through to handover
  • Review of contractor HS capability at proposal stage and maintain contractor performance/post contract review data to assist with future procurement decision making

Skills and experience

This is an excellent role for candidates who have significant Health and Safety experience within a commercial property/construction environment.

No day will be the same and the position requires a balance between finding fit for purpose, customer centric solutions, whilst upholding high corporate standards and meeting legal obligations. 

  • Tertiary qualification in OHS and previous experience in a leadership role
  • Well-developed skillset as a team contributor, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across functional lines
  • Experience within a complex multi-PCBU environment
  • Exposure to managing or mentoring team members
  • Sound business writing and verbal communication skillset
  • Customer-centric mindset coupled with excellent relationship building skills at all levels
  • Demonstrated success in influencing without direct authority and achieving a win/win outcome
  • Ability to think strategically and cope with business complexity
  • Solid understanding of commercial realities and well-developed business acumen
  • Sound working knowledge of legal frameworks/Health and Safety legislation
  • Excellent knowledge of structure and operation of on-line incident reporting and risk management systems
  • Track record of success in effecting positive change in HS behaviour
