About the role

As Health and Safety Manager, your role is to prevent harm and incidents in this high risk and unique company. You will develop and review company policies, SOP’s, training material and documentation.

Your proactive and positive engagement skills will drive an effective and robust health and safety culture, encouraging worker participation. Supported at a senior level, safety is paramount and this company strives for constant improvement. This role will directly influence this improvement.

Duties

  • Coach senior leaders to manage critical risks
  • Ensure the company meets legal requirements including the permit to work systems
  • Complete and review risk assessments on plant, equipment and machinery
  • Lead incident, accident and hazard prevention across the company
  • Complete onsite investigations and audits
  • Oversee contractor compliance
  • Coordinate monthly health and safety committee meetings
  • Develop and present health and safety reports to the Board and senior management
  • Forecast and manage health and safety budgets

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will need to be adept at multi-tasking, have working knowledge of the manufacturing environment and machine guarding and familiarity with chemical handling and storage is beneficial, as this company deals with a range of chemicals unique to their business.

  • Relevant HSE qualification, tertiary preferred
  • Significant experience in a manufacturing or high-risk environment
  • Hazardous substances experience
  • Proven document writing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and IT skills
  • Solid time management and organisational skills
