 About the role

As part of the Human Resources Group, this role will assist and promote the maintenance of a safe and hazard free work environment and implement health and safety policies and procedures throughout the organisation but more particularly in the construction and infrastructure space.

Working alongside senior managers, providing training and advice in order to minimise health and safety risks, you will report to the Health and Safety Manager.

Duties include:

  • Provide robust and current advice and support to all staff for Health and Safety related queries, concerns and issues
  • Support all stakeholders to reduce workplace risks
  • Assist with employee rehabilitation, fit for work and return to work processes
  • Develop, review and maintain procedures in line with best practice
  • Review and maintain hazard/risk registers
  • Drive continuous improvement
  • Assess training needs and deliver training as required
  • Lead health promotion initiatives
  • Collect, capture, collate, maintain and manage date through the Risk Manager system
  • Provide timely reports
  • Build exceptionally strong working relationships – both internal and external

Skills and experience:

We anticipate the successful person will have a number of years’ experience in Construction and/or Infrastructure, working as a health and safety practitioner – as well as a strong working knowledge of legislation and best practice/modern day health and safety thinking.

You will be organised, a self-starter and motivated to be the best you can be each and every day, with a strong commitment to Health and Safety and an effective communicator both verbally and in writing.

You will also have:

 Experience working in a large and diverse organisation in a similar role

  • Solid construction and/or infrastructure experience
  • Relevant tertiary level qualifications (or working towards these)
  • Strong preference for candidates who hold professional membership to NZISM
  • Audit and investigation experience
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent computer skillset
  • A team player attitude, who engages incredibly well at all levels and is positive and enthusiastic by nature
