Our client seeks an experienced Health and Safety Advisor with the ability to implement and maintain best practice safety management processes.

The company

A well-known NZ company, this organisation has a strong safety culture which, at branch level is led by a small management team and supported by the National Safety Team.

The role

This is a key role requiring a hands-on role approach.  Reporting to the Group Compliance Manager, indirectly to the Auckland Site Manager and other Auckland based Managers, responsibilities cover the processing/factory area, retail operation and head office environment (200+ employees).

You will spend time on the production floor, engaging and gaining buy-in to safety initiatives, training and educating – ensuring a good level of understanding of the processes and systems designed to provide a safer workplace and a more proactive safety culture.

Duties – main accountabilities

  • Deliver timely and accurate Health and Safety resources and services
  • Assist respective Managers to ensure all safety issues are managed in line with best practice, company policies, procedures and legislative requirements
  • Ensure full induction and relevant training is conducted
  • Support and lead a proactive health and safety culture
  • Chair and coordinate the HS Committee – key driver being continuous improvement
  • Ensure accident reporting and investigations are carried out to company and legislative requirements
  • Lead audits and ensure all corrective actions are undertaken in an effective and timely manner

Skills and experience

  • An good understanding of operations within a manufacturing environment
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety principles and legislation
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to engage with all levels within the organisation
  • Competent computer skills
  • A desire to influence change and continuously improve
  • Project implementation and completion
  • Preference will be given to those with Diploma level qualification
