Our client is seeking a high performing Health and Safety Advisor to champion a Zero Harm Programme and support ongoing safety improvements

The company

Our client operates within a critical risk environment, providing a broad range of cargo handling and logistics services and enjoying a high profile within New Zealand. This is a dynamic, safety critical environment with 24/7 shift patterns and operations running 365 days of the year.

They are looking to recruit an experienced advisor to join a proactive and developing safety team. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager and working with the wider team, you will lead the development of culture and assist the business to achieve its Zero Harm ambition.

We are seeking an exceptional advisor with demonstrated experience within a port or industrial environment. An ability to drive engagement and encourage personal ownership of health and safety initiatives is essential.

The role requires you

To provide accurate and specialised support to the Health and Safety Manager and wider operational staff. Assisting in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.

Develop and implement ongoing improvements to the safety initiatives. Ensuring accountability and developing a collaborate working environment.

Duties include

  • Coordinate and deliver the health and safety induction programme, maintaining documentation
  • Participate in the development of project plans, ensuring health and safety risks are identified
  • Update and maintain health and safety communications
  • Attend business group meetings to drive engagement and awareness
  • Lead the management of critical health and safety risks
  • Provide advice on identification of hazards and controls
  • Assist or lead accident/incident investigations
  • Coordinate and deliver specialist training
  • Assist with the maintenance of existing HS systems
  • Support the Health and Safety Manager to implement strategy and develop Zero Harm culture
  • Develop a strong working relationship management and operational leads
  • Investigate non-compliance and incidents, highlighting remedial actions

Skills and experience required

  • Teriary level safety qualification
  • Able to work in a complex heavily unionised environment
  • 3-5 years practical OHS experience, preferably in a high risk environment
  • Expert knowledge of New Zealand Health and Safety laws and regulations
  • Able to influence and engage a diverse workforce
