About the company

New Zealand’s largest specialist coal company, proudly providing employment within the region, Maramarua is an opencast mine located in the Waikato region of New Zealand producing a low-ash, low sulphur thermal coal for the domestic market.

Maramarua has a long history of coal mining with an opencast mine first being developed at the site in 1948. It has been mined in modest quantities since that time.  The coal produced at Maramarua has a low sulphur and ash content, making it ideal for steel production. The biggest customers for Maramarua’s coal are local dairy plants and a steel mill.

Successful production at Maramarua comes from a favourable mining environment and well-equipped infrastructure. 

About the role

Support the Health, Safety, Training and Compliance Superintendent to ensure all mining and related activities are carried out in accordance with legislation.

Responsible for the coordination and continuous improvement for the site Safety Management System.

Effective coordination of the site training programs and the monitoring/evaluation of contractors, including their obligations to comply with the legislative and company requirements.

Skills and experience

  • Tertiary education in OH&S and Training or similar
  • Practical experience in an industrial environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Practical working knowledge of legislation
  • Motivating, influential and engaging personality
  • Solid administration and coordination skills
