A safety leadership role to lead safety across a new JV Civil project for Government over the next seven years.

About the company

Our client is an alliance of several well-known NZ civil construction firms. They specialise in development and delivery of build ready land for key government clients. Specialising in major civil projects, they have a number of live sites in the works and have recently won new contracts securing a stable pipeline of work.

 About the role

This is a newly created role to support the Joint Venture that will evolve significantly over the next couple of years. Initially you will work with the senior leadership team in the Alliance to ensure that the right safety culture and strategic plan is in place. As the JV ramps up, you will have the opportunity to build a small team delivering safety and developing safety campaigns.

With a number of Alliance partners, the role will have a significant level of complexity and the need to build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.

Safety is led by line managers within the business, so the role will entail mentoring and partnering with the team to ensure safety is being delivered effectively. Identifying risks and any gaps in delivery and culture and creating programmes and policies to address these effectively.

There is a well-established Safety leadership team, however the role itself will be largely autonomous.

Skills and experience

You will have a strong technical knowledge of safety, preferably with a minimum of a diploma in Health and Safety. The Alliance is strong on both line led safety and Safety Differently so you will have demonstrable experience of building a strong safety culture within an organisation and engaging effectively at all levels.

While experience in a similar Civil or Construction role would be advantageous what we are really looking for is someone with expert knowledge around safety legislation and delivering an effective safety culture. So, if you are looking to enter into the civils industry this could be an excellent opportunity.

 Culture

The senior leadership are truly passionate about safety and see this as an opportunity to create a culture that will induct staff from the various arms of the Alliance into an industry leading safety culture.
