Seeking an experienced and well-rounded Safety, Health and Wellbeing practitioner to cover North Waikato to the top of the North Island

The company

Newly unified and rebranded, our client is a crown entity, working in the community, preventing and responding to emergency situations in a variety of environments.

The role

This role is responsible for assisting and mentoring both permanent and volunteer staff in a variety of settings.  The successful candidate will be skilled at identifying and understanding health and wellbeing needs and referring appropriately.

Actively promoting participation in safety and wellbeing initiatives, you will provide coaching and mentoring to senior leaders to enable the continued development of a positive and all-encompassing safety culture.  The role requires regional travel and the flexibility to work outside of usual business hours as required.

Duties

  • Provide advice and support to managers to ensure safety practices and procedures are implemented in line with organisational policy
  • Advise and support incident/accident investigations
  • Conduct and report on internal/external audits
  • Contribute to the development of national safety and wellbeing initiatives and programmes
  • Coordinate onsite contractor and visitor management
  • Reporting as required to the wider team
  • Attend and contribute to national Safety, Health and Wellbeing team meetings

Skills and experience

  • Level 6 Diploma in OSH is preferred
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid working knowledge of regulations and legislation
  • Experience within a large, complex organisation or similar environment
  • Good understanding of claims management and rehabilitation processes
  • Confidence in developing and delivering presentations and workshops
  • Experience in a community focused, service organisation would be an advantage
  • Flexibility for regional travel and work outside of normal business hours is a must
