The company

With a diverse and dynamic operation, our client is seeking a Business Partner to join their Safety and Wellbeing team to work throughout the organisation – no one day will be the same.

Running a diverse and large scale operation throughout New Zealand, remaining as one of New Zealand’s largest employers (workforce of over 8,000 including contractors), in addition they also have a large processing, printing and third party logistics operation.

With a significant and varied risk profile, working within a market driven, service focused operating model, it is imperative that an integrated approach to health, safety and wellbeing is taken and that regular reviews of their safety risk profile and control measures are considered alongside their ongoing operational efficiencies.

The role

Reporting to the Manager, Safety and Wellbeing, you will ensure excellent communication and collaboration throughout and have a great working understanding within the health and safety space, providing easy access to the necessary strategy, plans, system components and metrics to ensure all legislative and company obligations are met.

Working within the team of Safety and Wellbeing Business Partners, you will also provide the coaching and support across the business to enable an educated and proactive focus.

You will also ensure an efficient and effective service is provided to many different and varied business units; the right tools and processes are available in order to manage the various levels of risk, enabling a workforce to act in an educated manner in order to eliminate harm to all employees, contractors or members of the public.

Duties include

  • Assist with developing the Safety and Wellbeing strategic framework
  • Develop, implement programs consistent with the strategic approach and new initiatives.
  • Assist with maintaining the Health and Safety Management System
  • Work closely with relevant third parties for effective delivery
  • Provide positive and enthusiastic leadership, coaching and mentoring
  • Ensure robust relationships are maintained with key stakeholders
  • Work with the team to identify and manage existing and emerging safety and wellbeing risks

Skills and experience

  • Significant Health and Safety Management experience, preferably within a similar operation
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications
  • Proven ability in the practical application of legislation in a proactive manner
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Action orientated, dynamic and outcome focussed
  • Influential, diplomatic and a strong ability to influence and educate
  • Motivational – with excellent stakeholder engagement skillset
  • Excellent understanding of legislation
  • Solid, reliable and effective team builder with an inspirational twist
