The Role

A leading food manufacturing organisation requires a forward thinking, experienced Health and Safety practitioner to drive engagement and safety performance across operations. Leading a team of 2 and forming part of the site leadership team, the successful candidate will combine technical expertise with an ability to guide and influence operational staff. Previous experience of managing safety in a food manufacturing, industrial or FMCG environment would be highly desirable.

Reporting to the National Health and Safety Manager, the role sits within an established NZ wide team. The role provides broad development opportunities, and the chance to collaborate with national working groups/projects.

With proven leadership skills and the ability to guide and influence operational staff, with input across strategic direction, you will get the best out of your team, taking a collaborative approach. Communication will come easily to you, as will your clear and innovative delivery of Health and Safety. Action orientated, you will be able to prioritise and comfortably operate in a large scale FMCG environment.

Duties include

  • Provide technical health and safety management expertise across sites
  • Deliver support and guidance for key stakeholders
  • Support, coach and collaborate with the leadership team
  • Implement health and safety strategies and systems, working to best practice model
  • Ensure strong management of potential catastrophic, acute, chronic and occupational hygiene risks
  • Manage the site-based health and safety team to develop and refresh the strategy and associated supporting activity
  • Maintain a robust standardised incident investigation approach
  • Ensure fit for purpose solutions are identified to control risk

Skills and experience required

  • Diploma in OHS or associated qualification preferred
  • Practical working knowledge of NZ legislation
  • Influential, motivating – can do attitude
  • Great energy and engagement skillset, can drive engagement and coach
  • Knowledge of MHF requirements or Process Safety would be advantageous
  • Proactive and outcome focussed
  • Proven team management/leadership experience
  • Knowledge of accident investigation and route cause analysis
  • Experience within a production orientated environment
  • Location – close to lakes and ski fields
