Our client is seeking an experienced, engaging, proactive Health and Safety Manager in their high-risk industry

The company and position

Reporting to the Head of HR, HS and Operations within this high-risk, industrial, 24/7 environment – our client is seeking a superb communicator, with excellent and practical experience – working to best practice, above and beyond legislative requirements.

Part of the workplace support team, you will work alongside the people in a coaching role, with a view to integrating a Safety-II model and providing the expertise, foresight and oversight of delivery, according to the strategic plan.

You will have experienced success and be proficient in applying modern day safety principles and practices.

We would anticipate you having a passion for problem-solving and experience in critical risk management, providing robust/high-risk incident/accident investigation outcomes.

This is not a role that is driven by compliance – it’s about driving culture change and bringing everyone on that journey with you.

Duties

  • Develop and implement initiatives that meet the strategic safety priorities
  • Drive the long-term planning to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Coach and engage at all level to ensure a solid understanding throughout
  • Ensure all statutory obligations are met in relation the Health and Safety at Work Act etc.
  • Lead major event investigations and report/follow up on corrective actions
  • Ensure risk reduction strategies are in place
  • Assist and educate in regard to BowTie development and SOP reviews
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement, building strong networks and relationships
  • Engage and promote best practice – working towards a Safety-II approach

 Skills and experience

  • A number of years in a senior safety position
  • Strong, practical knowledge of legislation
  • Proactive attitude, with experience and a good understanding of the Safety-II approach
  • Excellent engagement skills, with an outstanding communication skillset, both written and verbal
  • Analytical, outcome focused by nature, with a strong ability to prioritise
  • Relevant level of qualification, including coaching/training
