Our client is a well-established civils construction contractor, providing specialist services, with a number of regional bases in New Zealand.

Our client is a well-established civils construction contractor, with their head office in South Auckland and a number of regional bases throughout New Zealand.

The role

This position will be hands-on, monitoring multiple project sites within the Auckland region, as well as Hamilton.

Ideal candidates will have a background in construction (on the tools/supervisors/Project Managers etc), and having moved into a career in Health and Safety, will be able to offer credibility on site

This is an Advisors role – you will need to have an influential, mentoring type of personality, working with the people and educating to ensure a solid foundation for safety success through training and understanding, rather than wielding a big stick.

Reporting to the National Health and Safety Manager, this company offers long term scope within their highly successful and growing business and you will work closely with Business Unit Managers who operate within the region.

Duties

  •  Provide effective health and safety support across allocated projects
  • Communicate and promote a consistent safety culture and values in line with the company vision
  • Play an active role in the Injury Management Process, ensuring the employees wellbeing and smooth return to work process
  • Develop strong relationships with regulatory and other external organisations
  • Manage, facilitate and promote the development, maintenance and implementation of the company’s health and safety management systems
  • Audit and monitor, review projects and collate relevant data, ensure a high standard of compliance is achieved and promoted
  • Provide visibility and specialist advice and information to all stakeholders, supporting required training as identified
  • Manage from a best practice – risk perspective
  • Maintain high levels of knowledge and expertise regarding current standards, initiatives, best practice as appropriate to the organisation
  • Promote a positive safety behavioural culture

Skills and experience required

  • Excellent health and safety knowledge and experience within a construction environment – legislation, best practice etc.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a relevant tertiary qualification and Site Safe training, although your experience will be taken into account
  • A proactive monitoring and auditing approach
  • Enthusiastic and committed to providing the tools and resources to encourage effective management and accountabilities
  • A truly engaging communication style and strong ability to influence at all levels – non-confrontational but comfortable with standing up for safety
  • Outcome focussed, with a strong problem solving skillset
  • Advanced incident/accident investigation skills
  • Experienced with Injury Management
  • Lead from the front to provide safety visibility, engagement and participation
  • Experience from tender through to completion of project
